humanlanguages - Swahilienglish - Swahili-Ismen
(E?)(L?) http://www.humanlanguages.com/swahilienglish/
This Web site is a dictionary of some Swahili words used in the English language, each with a literal or Swahili meaning, English definition and sometimes actual sample sentence(s) from literature and the Internet.
If you ever see the term Kiswahili, that is not another language; it is simply the Swahili word for Swahili.
Of course there are not as many Swahili loanwords in English as there are, for example, German loanwords.
I have begun with the most well-known Swahili word: "safari".
askari | bwana | Daktari | hakuna matata | Jenga | jumbo | kwanza | Kwanzaa, Kwanza | matata | mzuri | Nyota | Penda | pilipili, pili-pili, piripiri | pole-pole | pombe, pombi, pombé | Pumbaa | Rafiki | safari | Sarabi | shauri, shauria | shenzi | Simba | tote | Uhura | uhuru

"Jumbo", the name of P.T. Barnum's very large circus elephant, some sources say this is from Swahili "jumbe" = "chief", "headman", at least one source says it is from Swahili jambo "hello", however, other sources say it is (perhaps) from "mumbo jumbo" < Mandingo dialect "mama dyambo", "mama dyumbo", a god worshipped in western Africa.

sifuri (W3)
Von einem Besucher erhielt ich den folgenden Hinweis:
Ist Ihnen schon mal aufgefallen, dass das Wort "sifuri" (Kisuaheli für: "null") fast genauso klingt wie "sifir"?
Das sollte aber bei der "arabischen Vergangenheit" der Einwohner kein Wunder sein, denn auch die "Ziffer" kommt ja aus dem Arabischen. (siehe auch: Stichwort "Ziffer")
