Das "Internet" ist ein weltumspannendes Netz von vielen einzelnen Computer-Netzwerken. Zahlreiche Dienste erwecken diese Infrastruktur erst zum Leben - zum Beispiel "E-Mail", "Chat", "Dateiübertragung" oder auch "Internet-Telefonie".
Einer der bekanntesten Dienste des "Internet" ist das "World Wide Web" ("WWW"), das die Übertragung von Webseiten ermöglicht.

Einer der bekanntesten Dienste des "Internet" ist das "World Wide Web" ("WWW"), das die Übertragung von Webseiten ermöglicht. Zur Anzeige brauchen Nutzer einen Browser wie den Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari oder Opera.
Das "WWW" bedient sich bei der Übertragung von Seiten des "HTTP-Protokolls" ("Hypertext Transfer Protocol"). Für die Programmierung der Web-Seiten wird die "Hypertext Markup Language" ("HTML") eingesetzt. Im Adressfeld des Browsers steht der "Uniform Resource Locator" ("URL"), mit dem Inhalte im Web gefunden werden.
MyEtymology.com is an etymology dictionary for all languages. Its purpose is to tell you the etymology of every word of every language, going as far as it is currently known by science and showing it in a simple and clean graphical interface.
But it also tries to be more than a simple etymological dictionary: it wants to show you for each word the relationships with the other words in its language and beyond: it will show the words which were derived from it in any language and even cognates in other languages.
While mydictionary strives to encompass all languages, it started by having more words in some European languages, including English, Latin, French, French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, German, Romanian and other.

Die Internationalisierung des Internets schreitet voran.
Nach jahrelanger Vorbereitung werden vom kommenden Monat an erstmals Adressen-Endungen für Webseiten wie ".de" - sogenannte Top Level Domains - in nicht-lateinischen Schriftzeichen wie zum Beispiel Chinesisch, Koreanisch oder Arabisch zugelassen. Die Internet-Verwaltungsorganisation ICANN beschloss am Freitag (Video-Link) in Seoul zum Abschluss ihres 36. Treffens die Einführung einer zunächst begrenzten Zahl von "internationalisierten" Domain-Namen.
"Das ist nur ein erster Schritt, aber es ist ein unglaublich großer und ein historischer Schritt Richtung Internationalisierung des Internets", sagte der ICANN-Geschäftsführer Rod Beckstrom in der südkoreanischen Hauptstadt.
Die schon im vergangenen Jahr beschlossenen Pläne zur Vergabe von Domains in nicht-lateinischen Schriften sollen schrittweise umgesetzt werden. Im Rahmen eines Schnellverfahrens sollen die ersten internationalisierten Domain-Namen (IDN) am 16. November eingeführt werden.

Die Änderung begründet ICANN damit, dass von den 1,6 Milliarden Internetnutzern mehr als die Hälfte Sprachen verwenden, die nicht auf lateinischer Schrift basieren. Die bisherige Beschränkung hatte technische Gründe. Die Internet-Lenker haben nun ein neues Übertragungssystem entwickelt, das auf die Top Level Domains ausgeweitet werden kann. Besteht sie aus einer anderen Schriftart als der lateinischen, wird sie künftig doppelt "übersetzt". (dpa/tc)
